STS-93 Columbia night landing, I filmed from North Richland Hills, Texas, (where we lived at that time) July 27th, 1999, at 10:20 PM CDT.

I pulled this off of old home video (Sony Handycam) and converted it using eyeTV. Sorry it's so much grainier than our other videos, but it was the best we had at the time and I converted it as soon as it was possible.

Thank you Gatedialer for help tracking down mission information

Music: Samurai Ghost, by Peter Hajba (aka Skaven)

  • LOL your neighbor thought it was world war 3 LOLOLOLOLOL

  • @brody940

:D, if we didn't know it was coming, we all might have thought that. But, I let all the neighbors know ahead of time, and they actually asked us to knock on their doors when it was time to come out.

I like the audio in this video, but perhaps I should upload the unaltered audio too, because everyone was in astonishment, and the kids' reaction was cute.

But, funny, one of the neighbors is a pilot and said a fellow pilot once saw a reentry from a plane, and thought exactly what you said.

  • this is one of the coolest videos on youtube.

  • @sweetdwhite

    Thank you. :)

  • :17 awesome! You figured out that pulling back, gave a much better perspective of the shuttle's speed..

  • @titanium9000

Yea, I tried to get all types of captures, close ups for clarity and wide-angles for reference, but I sure wish I had a tripod for stability... and a modern HD camera bigtime!

  • Remarkable video! it makes me think of mankind...

  • @BooBoop69 It's really sad that the shuttles only got so much attention when something went wrong, not the 133 other times that everything went right...

    What's wrong with people?...

Well, actually, I guess what's wrong with the news?...

  • I live south of you, and have seen this 2 or 3 times. But only once did I time it to go back and LISTEN 5 - 10 minutes later and HEAR the sonic boom....that was cool.....

  • too many memories of sts-107...

  • Awsome re-entry video. Never had a chance to ee this live. Great camera work.

    Excellent hoice of music.

  • What an awesome video. Found this through an ATS thread.

Thankfully I see no Nibiru crazed comments here! :)

  • Wow, amazing footage! I would have loved to see a space shuttle gliding over my house at about 11,000 miles per hour, that's awesome!

  • Very cool video I always enjoy watching video's of space shuttle night re-entries... not to many either....

  • @TheJediCharles Is it any wonder about us as a country"come knock on my door" people amaze me great video

  • This is beautiful, plain and simple. You have chosen the absolute perfect musical accompaniment by Pete Hajba to go right along with this incredible experience. Could you even imagine what the Astronauts were feeling, seeing the Moon so massive right directly in front of them, lined up even with them as they entered the atmosphere on this gorgeous night? THIS is one of those truly amazing "hidden gems" tucked away here on Youtube that is an epic find. THANK YOU so much for sharing this with us!
