  • @gcdev Well, I'm glad to hear that the pain was not angina..... I haven't heard that version of the tune. Gotta check it out.

  • @isabellanakahara I know about those muscles. I suspected that I had developed angina and went to the doctors about chest pains. Had me on a treadmill with wires all over and declared my heart as working ok and said it must be muscle pains from something else....... like playing a fiddle for an hour or two a day after a long lay off.

Have you heard the version of this tune from Jenna Reid on Laughing Girl.... one sweet fiddle.

  • @gcdev .... Hi! I've been taking lessons and focusing a lot on Old Time fiddling. I have started to learn tunes by ear. The teacher records a tune, first slower, then more up to tempo. It's getting easier. I like it very much. Put it away for 48 years! Shooooot... It did take me a while after not playing for 22 years. There were lots of muscles that got sore once I started up again, as well as playing til my fingers were sore or numb.... Your group sounds really neat.

  • @isabellanakahara Only just discoverred Neil Gow recently and was intreged to find this lament to his brother. How are you doing without the dots? I am a born again fiddler having taken my violin out of a cupboard after about 48 years to find it is not like riding a bike. Working hard though and enjoying it no end. A group of us get together every so often to try playing dotless, we can make an aweful noise.

  • Nice. When you can play it with your eyes closed it will really be something! Great playing though.

  • Beautifully done. You don't happen to have downloaded sheet music for this do you?

  • I really like this lament. Thanks for your positive input. It wasn't terribly difficult. I was reading dots... I haven't memorized it yet. I am trying to learn a couple of slow Irish airs by ear right now. This is a real challenge for me since I am addicted to dot reading (having been a classically trained violist). I feel like a real bonehead at times, lol.

  • First time I have heard this lament. Wonderful tune and you do a great job on it --you know it sounds to be a rather difficult tune to me. I say "difficult" because it seems crooked -- so it is (or would be) hard to commit to memory?
