Last night i discovered that Thom Yorke's animated face is actually available online as a 3D point cloud. Of course i just had to play around with this stuff, it's brilliant.
Anyway, i sticked the data right into my 'One Million Particles' app and tried out some different rendering effects. This is still without physics and other fancy stuff, just drawing the guy's face in psychedelic ways 8)
More to come soon. A BIG thanks to Radiohead!
OK, for anyone interested: Unlike the web-viewer, this is the FULL point cloud data visualized in real-time, with full physics simulation available as well (just not used here yet). It's running in C# and DirectX, on 2007/2008 hardware actually!
I use mouse, keyboard and PS3 gamepad to control everything, motion, color, physics, etc.. Also, while it's running i can switch to both the animated face scene and the two 'city' scans. So, in theory i could re-record the whole music video, LIVE!!
Next i'll try the 3D scanning in real-time as well; then things will really get crazy. With a simple, hacked beamer i could make INVISIBLE (infra-red) structured light. This would enable LIVE scanning in 3D of the band in concert, while generating House of Cards style 3D visuals!!
Radiohead, i'd love to do this on one of your tours ;)
it's Radioheads Thom Yorke as a 3D point cloud, from their 'House of Cards' video. The data is online, ill add the link later. I just added the description to this video so now you know anyway ;)
watch out for my next video of the LIDAR scan data from the music video
