This operation was carried out in 1995 on a paralysed teenage male who had damaged his right phrenic nerve. After consultation with his doctors, he agreed to have a unilateral phrenic pacer. The surgery team including Dr Soni, Mr Sett, Dr Oo and Dr Watt had never before undertaken a surgery to attach a stimulator to only one phrenic nerve so the operation was recorded for training purposes. The pacing system is still working, the only one of its kind in the UK.
