How does a Christian receive the power of the Holy Spirit? From Jesus. We don't need a priest or a shaman or a holy man and we don't need to go to a sacred place—we go to Jesus. We don't labor so that God will love us, but because in Christ, he already does. Before you do anything, if you're in Christ, God is well pleased with you.

This clip is excerpted from the sermon "Receive Power" part #4 of our current sermon series, God's Work, Our Witness. It was recorded at Mars Hill Church Albuquerque in New Mexico and released online January 1, 2012.

  • Great message. Many Christians today do not have a proper understanding of the biblical doctrine of imputation of the righteousness of Christ that is given to the believer and live under the tyranny of some type of legalism.

  • "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

  • @pastorjamesasher Since the teacher is not here to speak for himself I will have to evaluate his students.Students are only as good as the teacher.I know many Christians and as far as I'm concerned they still need many lessons.I still like your Christ though.Peace.

  • @bozolazic...These are people who say they follow Christ. We are NOT supposed to look at the ones following but the one who they are following!

  • @bozolazic...To like Christ is saying I like steak or ice cream. He must be in your heart and you must LOVE him...Gandhi obviously didn't realize we are ALL human and none are perfect (including Gandhi himself) except Christ. It's a journey and we ALL must strive to be like Christ by loving him and seeking to follow after him (Jesus Christ)!!!

  • @bozolazic i can see your point, but my experience is that people talk a lot about 'how bad/un-christlike christians are', but that's not true of most of the christians they know, who are living as christ to them. It's talking sociology, not relationship.

  • @MarkHolgate He probably meant people like George Bush, Christopher Colombus and those that follow the senseless tyranny of the subordinates.

  • @bozolazic then they are not/were not christians, because christ was not in them.

but ghandi was somewhat disingenuous there. he met, and lived with, many great christ-like missionaries. many people who lived like Jesus. So while his comment is a reasonable description of many people professing to be christian, it simply wasn't true, because Ghandi had also met jesus in his people.

  • Hey! here is some news for you: GARDINER -- A longtime minister of Christ Episcopal Church has been placed on a two-year suspension following a months-long church investigation that found he engaged in sexual misconduct consisting of "inappropriate language and interpersonal boundary violations." So i guess Jesus was there witnessing hu? you sick bastards!

  • @RADIXCHRISTUSMOLE brother, are you referring to antinomianism?

  • Great message in the video. But the description might throw someone off before watching the video. He's not talking about receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. That's something different. Just clarifying. :)
