Charlie was buried at old kona baptist church in 3 graves because they buried him and kept fimding pieces and back in the early 1900s exuming was a sacrelige so they couldnt dig him up to bury the pieces together its an interesting story i used to live less than a mile from the graves and sadly enough members of my family sold him the shine and sat on the jury to convict her
The song was based on the frankie and charlie silvers story which took place in the kona community in bakersville north carolina a little town no ones heard of but the actual story is charlie came home drunk beat franky and pulled a shotgun on her and when he passed out ahe chopped him to bits with an axe and was caught by a nieghbor while trying to burn the body in the yard she was hung in murphy north carolina three days later first woman hung in the state
This song is actually used in Animal Crossing: City Folk during the Thanksgiving festival (forgot what it's called lol!), just the tune, not the words =)

@catkeena Hi, this wasn't written for Elvis and the movie.
This American folk/blues song dates back to the late1800's, and possibly earlier.
There are recordings of it dating back to the 1920's, notably,
Frank Crumit's 1927 Victor recording.
