Gearboxes may seem complicated but they are very simple in their construction, and surprisingly easy to put together. The main issues are having the right tools to do the job. So here's a list of what you will need. * Torque Wrench with a maximum range in excess of 150lbft * 1 1/2″ deep socket ( a ball joint socket is ideal ) * Small ratchet and a long extension is useful * Other sockets 1 1/8, 9/16, 1/2, 7/16, 3/8 * Small cold chisel * Steel punch (1/8″ diameter) * Larger steel drift * Mallet (soft and hard headed) * Small screw driver

  • hi..part two ,the selector shaft etc can that area of working parts cause a mini gearbox to be stiff in neutral and make reverse very hard work to select and then find neutral again ?? i can allways make and post a video onto youtube of my problem :) any help would be much appreciated

  • @MrUnited08 You didn't say whether your problem is one for a gearbox you've just

rebuilt, or for one that is in your car and has started to exhibit the

symptoms you mention. If the former and if the parts were not checked

before and during assembly (and the gearbox bench checked before being

mated to the engine), it is possible your problem could be with the

    parts/assembly shown in the video.

  • @MrUnited08 If the later, it is still possible

but less likely, and there's nothing you can do about it without pulling

the power unit, removing the gearbox and taking it apart. It is more

likely that you have wear in the external rod shift mechanism or even a

    clutch issue.
