Here's the highly demanded video of me demonstrating the switch axe. The switch axe has two modes you'll be switching between frequently. Switch to sword mode whenever you have enough time to punish the monster for opening himself up. Otherwise, the chop and upward swing of the axe is plenty of damage as well!

Gear:
Tough Break (R)
This is a dragon type switch axe. It requires a bunch of ore, a jumbo pearl which can be found in the underwater gathering spots in the D. Island, and some Diablos parts.
Full Rhenopolos Blademaster
I gemmed this with sandbag and gobble jewels to get both to +15. As usual, I have my +10 perception gem that came in use.

I'm sorry the ending got cut off. I'm not sure what's happening, but I had to redo this video twice. Hopefully I'll be able to sort it out soon. Enjoy, and happy hunting!

  • @Blindingscythe13 You think wind resist high is a bad skill to have against Rathalos?

  • @SocialDissonance No I dont think so.

  • @Blindingscythe13 Full Rhenopolos gives wind resist high and has decent fire resistance. Ingot is still probably a better set to use in general, but Rhenopolos gives better fire resistance. Please learn about the armor skills before criticizing a set!

  • @Blindingscythe13 Wind resist low, but easily gemmed to high o.o

  • Good cataloguing of the axe mode attacks, could maybe use a little more depth on the sword mode. I've been trying to pick this weapon type up, and the sword mode has continued to baffle me a bit (probably because I expect it to handle more like a greatsword than it actually does). Would go into more detail about a few things I've found that I think bear mentioning, but youtube comment limits cut me short when I tried to type it up. (Can you tell I don't comment on youtube very often?)

  • @VonCrown The Sword mode is pretty straightforward (fortunately or not).

The vertical slices do more damage than horizontal slices. Holding forward will cause you to lunge forward every other swing. You can transition quickly into axe mode out of the back swinging sword swipe. You can accelerate the elemental burst by holding forward.

    That's it!

  • need help i have buttons A,B,c and z

  • is that on wii?

  • (note commenter using wiimote/nunchuck) I've notied you get different types of swings depening of if you hold the wiimote left or right or straight. and it allwas drives me nuts. because I have no clue which of the three is the strongest

  • He didn't show the over head sword chop.

  • The most damaging attack in axe mode is actually the upwards chop, not the downwards one.

With the first Switch Axe you get, the upwards chop kills Jaggis in one hit whereas it takes 2 to kill them with any other attack.

  • @valantis121 do the sunken treasure quest there lots of bone piles then thats i got mine

  • I can't find the pearls i looking and looking at area 10 + 11 ate the Isle but nothing i am sad i need the S-A
