This video from 3d artist and educator Andrew Klein (www.andrewklein.net), shows the viewer how to import a 3d model into Photoshop CS4 from Maya 2009, and demos two techniques to add photographic information into a texture, without having to paint on the UVs. This is part 1 of 3.

  • im using cs5.. and well i can't find the 'two sided values' button/option to turn it off.. i have been looking for like 3hours, nothing on google, nothing in the photoshop help options.. im pulling my hair out here x_x someone help me *sobs*

  • @riekoe35 I have cs5 and its still there. I totally promise dawg

  • Every time i import the obj file. It keeps the uv map i had already created on top of the model in Photoshop. If i paint on the model. The Uv map still stays as a top layer and the paint goes under it. Is there a way to prevent the UV map lines from showing up. Is there something i'm missing while exporting or importing?

  • User error here. You are most likely hooknig up your UVsnapshot as texture while exporting from Maya. Either disconnect it from the shader, or go into your obj export options and uncheck the "materials" box which will not export the .mtl file. Alternately, delete the .mtl after exporting and before importing into PS

  • hey there i have a prob with the obj import .

im working on max and when i export the mesh then import it in PS all i can see is a blank sceen ??!!

    please help

  • Im sorry, im a maya user not a max user. My guess, make the PS background blank (the checkers) instead of white. Maybe its getting imported with an all white texture? Im sorry I dont have more.

  • @riekoe35 finally found it! maybe u already did xD, go to the 3D menu on photoshop cs5 under "render settings" and just select "remove backfaces" from the face style menu :)

  • PS CS5 and cant find "two sided" option anywhere Andrew :(

  • David Cross is that you? But seriously, could please reupload in higher def?

  • your voice sounds familiar to me... like the voice of andrew kramer a good teacher too... but his specialty is adobe after effects. :)

  • Your tutorial is superb! Is it better to texture 3D object using Photoshop or the 3d program itself liked maya and blender using UV mapping and unfolding it to avoid distortion. Thank you and please replied.

  • This is exactly what I was looking for, but since it's recorded in 360p, it's worthless.

  • can u do a tutorial on how to get the uv layout properly pls

  • in listening to ur vid playing as i typed i got my answer - uv created before texturing - jesus - start over again - ps - did u create uv's in maya? cheers
