This is the great modern jazz French Algerian pianist, Martial Solal, with the great Sidney Bechet a little less than 2 years before he died.
Sidney Bechet recorded with this straight-ahead format to quelch criticism by music critics that he "couldn't play with a modern, straight-ahead jazz quartet."
Sidney Bechet recorded with this straight-ahead quartet which featured Martial Solal on piano, Kenny Clarke(!) and Al Levitt on drums, Pierre Michelot and Lloyd Thomson on bass.
The recording quality is superb, and gives you great insight into what Bechet sounded like in person.
. . . and as always, Bechet is fabulous on this.
A wonderful combination! Probably the best late work by Bechet.
