@mccauley404 It's called a Stabilator. It does move from 9° to 39° and is coupled to the SAS system. As the aircraft slows down, the stabilator drops. As forward airspeed is increased it moves up to a flat position. There was an issue with the stabilator being interfered with by microwave towers in the 80s causing the stabilator to go into full down position while at cruising speed. This condition resulted in many crashes and earned the Blackhawk the nickname "Lawn Dart"

Does the rear horizontal aileron move, or is it fixed? Thanks in advance.

He dumped so much power into the flare he had nothing left to maintain OGE hover. This transitioned into a descent rate that he didn't have the power to recover from. The end result was a replacement of all 4 blades, and sudden stoppage inspections. The aircraft was lowboyed to a maintenance facility and flown 2 weeks later. And civilians don't get within a mile of the Army's Rotorcraft training. NSDQ!!!!!

It's scary to think that some of you claim to be hawk pilots and can't recognize what happened in this video or the fact that this video is used by the Army for crew coordination classes. As a former -60 MTP I can tell you exactly what happened as confirmed by the accident investigation. The HIT check was just barely within limits and they loaded on a full crew and 11 PAX. He exceeded 60 degree pitch limit with that "Cav" flare.
Pendejo !!

@8LSmith - 236thmedco.00freehost. Here is a website I setup years ago when I was flying MEDEVAC Blackhawks. Note that it is called "Rohrbeck's Page". I am Chief Warrant Officer 3 Rohrbeck. Assclown.

Conversely, take an R22 pilot and train him in a blackhawk... now you have a real pilot!
LYono22 6 months ago
@LYono22 - You really need to do a little research before that kind of comment. ALL military pilots begin their training in small aircraft (not ones quite as ugly as the R22) and learn "finesse" before moving on to REAL (advanced) aircraft. And most REAL pilots know better than to Monday morning quarterback other pilots.

@patmagroin20 Actually you are obviously ill informed and are NOT in any way educated in aviation whatsoever. Number 1, they learn in oh58 (military bell 206), that is NOT the same as an r22. R22s are definitely the most demanding helicopters in the way of basic skills, control and power management. What happened here is RING VORTEX STATE. He developed a sink rate WAY too high as he lost ETL (effective translational lift).... and when you decelerate (quickstop) THE BLADES SPEED UP

@tburns7v - I've been a Blackhawk pilot for 11 years jackass, so I am OBVIOUSLY well informed. Every year during the APART, we cover the vortex ring state and I've actually been in it once, so I know what I am talking about. Jackass. And the R-22 is the second ugliest aircraft ever built, so suck it.
