I too am a member of a small local band, comprised mainly of amateurs who may never make it to the Worlds, but play for the simple love of the instrument, for the camaraderie, and to provide community service. I understand how wind and weather can wreak havock with a reed and how difficult the bagpipes are to play. I started in my late fifties. I will tell you that I was quite impressed with this video. Love the location, the uniforms, and the Dark Isle is one of my favourites. Well done!

You will appreciate then, that pipes are not the easiest thing to play unless you are able to commit to many hours a week. We are a local band from Bristol, made up of novice volunteers who have taken up pipe playing at varying ages - some not until after retirement. We are fortunate to have been asked to play at many formal occasions and to be allowed to play at the Menin Gate the same weekend for about 8yrs still brings a lump to the throat of not only the players but the families.
