Great old song performed by the Dixie Echoes on the main stage at NQC 2009. Group members are Wesley Smith (tenor), Randy Shelnut (lead), Scott Shelnut (baritone), Pat Barker (bass), and Stewart Varnedoe (pianist). They are joined at the end by the Dixie Melody Boys. *** See other NQC clips on NQC's Youtube channel, NQCOnline.

  • I was a big fan of the old Dixie Echoes way back when Dale Shelnut was still alive. The crew with Dale at lead, Larry Ford at tenor, the Whitfields at baritone and piano and Ken Turner at bass. I also liked them when Jack Toney was with them. I haven't followed the newer combos but these guys are great! Is that Dale's son singing lead? Great sound and high energy like the old group. I'm a fan again!

  • @mastermonster1956 Yes, Randy is Dale's son and is singing lead and Randy's son is the baritone. I'm glad you're a fan again!

  • No not kidding. I like the guy. I love listening to bass singers. It's fun to come across someone new every now and then.

You seem to really know alot about the world of Southern Gospel Power Harmony Quartets. I am curious about something. Why do these guys move around from group to group so much.

  • @1234JDParris5678 Well, it's like any other job. Sometimes you get unhappy where you are and sometimes other opportunities just come up that you would like to take advantage of. Sometimes family issues come up and the singers are needed at home instead of traveling so much. Some groups are extremely stable and some have a lot of turnover.

  • I like this Pat Barker guy. He is a lot of fun. Any idea who he is with these days?

  • @1234JDParris5678 Pat is such a great singer and enjoys it soooo much! I don't know whether you're kidding or not - but Pat is doing a fantastic job with the new Mark Trammell QUARTET!!! A very talented young gentleman named Trent Adams is singing with the DE's.

  • DinanaSN; thanks for the reply back. That's great that Dale's son and grandson are keeping it going and going so well. Very dynamic and awesome quality...just like the old guys! I know Dale must be looking down and smiling with that big ole' grin of his!

  • Thank you. Makes a lot of sense. You are fortunate to live in an area where you get to see the quartets on a regular basis. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area there is not a great amount of opportunities.

  • Yes, I have seen the videos with the young lad Trent singing bass with the Dixie Echo's. He does a great job.

I never heard of Pat Barker. He is a good bass singer and a ton of fun to watch. Thanks for the tip I will see if I can find anything on Youtube with him and the new Mark Trammel Qt.

  • There don't come any finer of a bass singer or person than Pat Barker...
