Heidemann wins individual epee gold

Eighth-seeded Britta Heidemann picked up the gold in the women's individual final in St. Petersburg, Russia, after defeating third-seeded Li Na of China 14-10. Heidemann was part of the bronze winning team in Turin last year, and the silver medalist team in the 2004 Olympics. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

It's a cable that goes from a little button on the end of their weapon all the way to a box. When the button goes down, a light goes off. Point.

@K1TSON360 Women's epee is not that old. They just look lazy to me, fishing for a simple score. Foil used to be the only weapon women competed in at the Olympics. Foil demands a bit more grace, and control, whereas epee is a hit first weapon. I once got a complement from a Russian fencer on an epee attack I made against him, even though I failed to score. I left the ground during a compound lunge attack, point leading in a sweep. "Now that's fencing," he yelled! Great times.

I found that fencing women epee was pretty easy overall. They double touch so often. So let it go to la belle, have the move to avoid their double and get the final point. I did that many times.
