Corvus crassirostris of the highlands of Ethiopia is the largest Corvid and also has the largest bill and Ethiopia is definitely in Africa!
The two members of the sub-genus Corvultur which include the White-necked Raven and the Thick-billed Raven do look similar but the Thick-billed is most certainly the larger of the two species.

True, if you don't take size into account. Where I live we have common ravens and American crows, both all-black, and the crow is a little bigger than a pigeon, while the raven looks like a big hawk (or a small eagle!) There's the tail shape too, but that's not always obvious. Behavior and voice are the two easiest ways to tell the difference.

ccoraxfan: I dunno. To someone who doesn't know corvids, ravens, rooks, and crows all look alike, since most of the well-known crows/ravens/rooks are all-black.
I mean, it wasn't until I started looking up videos that I wasn't able to see the differences between a raven and a crow!

I think the thick-billed raven (corvus crassirostris) of Ethiopia is bigger. And the raven is as distinct from the crow as the magpie is distinct from the jay!

It sounds alot like a BC raven ... a bit lighter

What a lovely sound.

maybe it is a mix between a magpie and a raven :S

I think it's actually a thick-billed raven.
