St Maximin Organ Acadamie lesson with Philippe Bardon

This summer students aged from 13 to 70 of all standards came to the acadamie d'orgue at St Maximin http://www.orgue-saintmaximin.com/ . It is a wonderful opportunity for organists young and old to experience one of the seminal instruments of the 18th Century as well as a colourful repertoire. Discovering the French Baroque leads one to re-examine all subsequent music and possibly to play the organ with more colour and excitement.

It's nice to know that one's videos are appreciated and I hope that as a result people will be enthusiastic to play, maintain, restore and build pipe organs.

Many organs built in the last century are a mishmash of everything and only able to play music in a trite way, incapable of real inspiration. This is the reason that, in contrast, the organs of Albi cathedral and St Maximin have really inspired me, and I hope many others too . . .
