I've moved the DiMarzio Paf Pro which I installed a while ago from the bridge position to the neck position. I like it more on the neck position as it gives a warmer and not too muddy tone.

Anyway, the focus of this video is to show the Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9 that I've sort of 'modded' myself recently. What I did was I removed the stock JRC4558D chip and replaced it with a Burr Brown OPA2134 high fidelity opamp and also changing the stock weak looking red LED to a super bright white LED. This mod makes an enormous change to my TS9!

The stock TS9 sounded harsh with the excessive mid hump and also lack of bottom frequencies. After the mod, I get a more balanced tone with a flatter EQ. Besides, the Burr Brown OPA2134 makes the pedal sound more transparent, warmer, responses better to picking dynamics and more tube-like. It is like transforming it into the 'boutique' territory.

In this video I'm using a solid state Fender FM212R 100W amp and a tad of delay. All of the tone is from my TS9. I set it to the break-up point with my picking and notice how well it responses with my picking by breaking up/cleaning up nicely and how smooth the overdrive is. I totally love this mod and I would recommend it to everyone.

All my neck, middle (single coil) and bridge pickup sounds good with it. From the start til about 2:38 I was using the neck pickup (DiMarzio Paf Pro) and from 2:39-3:48 I was using the stock single coil (DiMarzio/IBZ) in the middle position and from then onwards I was using the stock bridge humbucker (DiMarzio/IBZ).

I was just playing a random tune and very sorry for the sloppy playing.

Enjoy! =D

  • bla bla bla...

  • @MrGuitarboy97 If you're wondering what the difference is, F-spaced pickups are for guitars with Floyd Roses.

  • @yongling Thanks for you help! btw nice video

  • that's nice playing man!

  • Don't think that you have to get this enormous tube amp to get good overdrive. If you buy a 65 watt tube amp, thats equal to about a 100-110 watt solid state amp. So you could get a 40 watt tube amp for about 600-670 bucks that would more than compensate for you old amp.

  • mhm I see.. and why didn't you liked it on the bridge position? Paul Gilbert uses it on the bridge position, and his tone is awesome.. it`s like crunchy, with a good treble response but no too dirty..
