organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but

I agree with you, but I have to say that this would be a very cool theme for a movie and since he is a director (or an entertainer like he said) it makes sense for him to connect with such vision of the future. This for me looks more like a possibility then a prediction

The 'cult of the singularity' makes so many unjustified assumptions and predictions about the future, that it sound more like religion every day.
Examples: why assume that artificial intelligence will be inorganic? If AI is organic, then it certainly will have difficulty traveling anywhere outside our solar system.
The distinction between type I, II, and III, civilizations is completely science fiction conjecture and not supported by evidence in any way.

- So if JJ makes a sucky movie.....Bay is the reason? Or do you mean, micheal bay has stopped making great films? Truth be told, The Island was his last best movie imo.
