Thanks to Friends of Llangiwg Church for letting us use this wonderful ancient building as a setting for our recording.
SGI is a lay Buddhist Organization with members in more than 190 countries, who practice the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin. The words of Calon Lân, or Pure Heart as it translates to English, express the eternal value of purity of heart in ones intentions rather than obsession with worldly wealth. This song struck a deep chord with the Welsh people and this song became a jewel of the Welsh Chapel movement. The same sentiments are expressed by Nichiren Daishonin in a letter he wrote to Shijo Kingo in 1277, entitled "The Three Kinds of Treasure":
"More valuable than treasures in a storehouse are the treasures of the body, and the treasures of the heart are the most valuable of all. From the time you read this letter on, strive to accumulate the treasures of the heart!"
