In the United Stated nuclear energy currently provides 75% of all non-fossil electricity generation. Greatly improved performance of nuclear power plants over the last 20 years has resulted in very high operating reliability, leading to plans for construction of new reactors in the United States. This talk will discuss the current status of nuclear energy, and review the potential directions the technology may go in the future.

  • The fuel disposal centers are currently dead. Obama has closed them down. The Thorium Process Reactors that you mentioned can digest the waste from the Uranium Reactors. The problem is the high transuranics, from what I understand. If we skipped developing 4th generation Uranium reactors and went to Thorium LFTR like Oak Ridge lab ran for 5 years, we would probably be better off. LFTR's would be producing a "Tecnomulch" of rare strategic earths........
