I was told by someone in the D'Angelico organisation that don't be fooled by the price of the Excel, it is an amazing guitar. Thr person from D'Angelico told me: "don't buy the New Yorker ($4000), just get the Excel, because I can't even see the difference in quality". He went on to say that the Koreans are serious luthiers. They are like what Japan was in the 80's when they built all those Tokai Love Rocks and Strat copies.

No argument there. I sold a $5K Gibson L-5 shortly after acquiring my D'As. That's not to say that it's every bit a Gibson L-5. Just that it did such a fine job copping that sound for SOOOO much less that I couldn't justify the Gibby.

Hi Dallas, thanks man - well, your D'A is the real thing and mine (sold) is a Korean copy at the end of the day! But a hell of a deal for $800, no doubt. Yours sounds great! Keep on chunkin' away on her.

Absolutely classic electric jazz guitar; no problems. I find that I used to prefer the laminated/routed pickup sound but now I opt for carved archtops mostly. I've become a bit more acoustic in mid-life. ;)
