it is kind of weird seeing Mat Saleh (aka White People, aka Ang Mohs) performing silat... they make it look weird... i always love to watch Malay Malaysians or Singaporeans or Indonesians performing or sparing silat :)
Salaam Alaikum, this is Shihabudeen, I teach in Central Oregon... I would like to say that islam and sufism in particular is the spiritual sourcing for the art of silat that I teach... but just as the science of sufism and tassawuf preceded the term so did the spiritual sourcing for silat... in the Old Testament David (as) was dancing for God Almighty and the scriptures say the angels came down and inspired him in that dance.. this is the angelic invocation of power the sourcing for all war arts
I got a love/hate relationship w/ Silat...I truly love some of the combat techniques, but I hate the posturing. I guess all martial arts eventually go more to the art and less to the martial.
ha..where did u learn that silat...that was silat harimau anak betawi..the originally jurus..but your hand shows at the bunga must be like the tiger hand scratching..
Peace and blessings, I teach in Bend Central Oregon... privately... Lionesses comment below is actually mine... I used her account ... nonetheless the reality of love as the source of all inspiration speaks to the law of attraction .. if you love something its what is behind that which compells you... God Most Gracious is behind all you love calling you so to truly walk with Him and to have Him on your side in the battle is the goal of all pure hearts/arts, there is no defense without God...
actually... islam means surrender to God... Submission to the Divine Will... and its reality predates the term to express the heart belief of the first human being.... and all those who express belief... such is the power of true human love for their creator supreme the source of all faiths and all truth creator or all that is and ever will be...
Actually, silat is a martial art first. Then, it collaborated into dance such as Minang Dance. Even the javanese dance had Silat step but they do it slowly. And like kungfu, there are many types of Silat. For example, in Central Java, there are type of silat that used to be used by princess or king daughter.
if i look at silat harimau, I think it looks like jujitsu... and a bit aikido

Wa'alaikumussalam...
Silat exist before Islam came to Nusantara (Indonesia-Malaysia). Thus, it irrelevant to speak islamic term here.
