STEVE CANNANE, REPORTER: Fran Sheffield runs a homeopathic practice on the Central Coast of NSW and she has a controversial position on vaccination.
FRAN SHEFFIELD, HOMEOPATH: The research we have, and it is limited research, shows that the rate of protection that a homeopathic immunising agent provides seems to be similar and in some instances better than what the orthodox vaccines offer. In terms of safety they are way, way better than vaccines.
STEVE CANNANE: On her website Homeopathy Plus! Fran Sheffield claims homeopathic immunisation is effective against polio, meningococcal, cholera, whooping cough and other serious diseases.

@rothery86 On medicare, some use 'other' charge codes, to provide homeopathic medicines, and 'general consultation' codes for advise to use homeopathic medicine. That's a direct cost to taxpayers.
On private health insurance, many insurance companies cover 'alternative medicines' including homeopathy. I subscribe to one such private health insurance contract. I can't get out of it or I lose physiotherapy. So legitimate therapies are lumped in with 'bullshit' therapies, thus costing us all.

@arachn1dinshoe How do Australian taxpayers pay for homeopathy? That really makes me sick, and very glad I no longer pay taxes to the Australian government.

"Homeopathy as good as chemotherapy for breast cancer."
That genuinely made me feel sick in my stomach.

Homeopathic "immunisation" against smallpox, hepatitis, cholera, polio, malaria....
Great, I wonder if we can wipe out all the disease in 3rd world countries with cheaper homoepathic remedies which don't require that enormous research grant that is required with that evil western "orthodox" medicine.
Playing nice is not going to help prevent deaths anymore, these idiots ignorance is not an excuse to treat them nice when they sell horse shit.

We, the Australian Taxpayers, are PAYING for these fraudulent homeopaths! They should all be shut down and charged with criminal fraud!
If you can't demonstrate that a treatment treats a particular ailment, then advertising your product as a treatment for that ailment is FRAUD! CRIMINAL FRAUD!
I don't care whether you're a homeopath or a pharmacologist!
Selling fake medicine should attract HUGE jail time!

Homoeopathy (alternately homeopathy) was described in an Australian Medical Journal editorial in 1877 as an irrational heresy and homoeopaths were described as immoral, dishonest and promoting a system of charlatanry.
Despite 133 years of medical advances, homeopathy remains unchanged and in 2010 still lacks any evidence of efficacy.
Homeopaths are quacks of the very worst kind, taking advantage of the sick and ignorant, offering magic cure alls without a scap of evidence.
