11 yard option run by Tony Dorsett to increase the panther lead to 21-0 in the 1977 Sugar Bowl against UGA. Pitt goes on the win the game and the national championship, Pitt's Ninth.
Sanders was great! The closest player in style to Dorsett..I preferred Tony! He wasn't utilized as he should have been!.Both were better than the overrated Smith! Payton gave 150% every play he was in! You want a guy on your team like that! Brown probably the toughest to bring down! Every time he got the ball he was gonna make yardage.I remember seeing him as a child in the 60s..For sheer power, he was the best! Dorsett was so pretty with unique acceleration thru the line!! He was my idol!!
Great RB. But the real coup that year was when The Cowboys made that joke-of-a-trade with Seattle for their 1st pick of the draft- With that pick, they chose Dorsett.
@rmrooster01 Payton is the greatest when you consider all the things that a great running back should do: run, block, catch. No great runner ever blocked as well as Payton. He could pass like a backup QB and catch better than many WRs.
@DAYTONACOUPE65 Sayers was great could have been greater if it wasnt for the wicked tackle that robbed him. TD was great too, bringing Herschel into the lineup really robbed him of thousands of more yards. Ive never seen jukeing like Barry Sanders though. None of the above could juke like Barry Sanders. Jim Brown is the greatest. Back then the whole defense was geared to stop Jim Brown. and he still had all them yards every year, and they didnt have 16 game seasons back then
Sure... Marcus Allen won a CIF Sectional Championship as a High School QB, He won at National title as a back up to Charles White, Super Bowl as the feature back & won MVP
