Er, calm down,aagjmb ! I'm not correcting the wonderful Bernstein. In your innocence, your kneejerk, defensive reaction is to express outrage that I am somehow criticising Lennie's interpretation. I am not at all. I think it's one of the most electrifying performances I've ever heard- it's up there with the Solti and Rattle, in my books. But I am a university - educated musician who has a special interest in early 20th music, including Mahler. Just saying the girls fucked up there!
With all the advancements in recording and technology, and the dozens of recordings of the 8th out there, Bernstein's is still the benchmark.
