Compagnons De La Marjolaine by Jean Cartier an interesting record I found at a flea market for $5.
I don't know what the lyrics are because they are in French. This record was made in Lachine Quebec.

  • This is the song that Rigaud sings in Little Dorrit!

  • Thank you!! I've been looking for an English translation of this song all over the internet! :)

  • It's an old folk song of the 16th. Funny, this song is often sing to kids because not everything is being told. The real meaning: A guard makes its round in Paris at night, stop by a brothel and ask for a girl to "marry". The brothel-keeper tell him all her girls are "at bed". He ask for one who is awake. The brother-keeper ask what he would give for her. The guard speaks of gold and gilded jewels. She's not interested, he's been told. Then his heart he would give. In that case, he can get in!
