@apoco hm, no, it's often used with the purpose of insulting someone, without knowing if a person see themself as "hipster", if a hipster-hater call them hipster, then they do it because they dislike something about them ..they don't say it as a compliment..

what about "undercover hipsters"? maybe they are more true hipsters, except you can't pick them out in a crowd.... double ironic hipsters, wearing the most conform clothes they can find, but under the surface is a freak with abnormal taste in music that are also double ironic mainstream... like the socalled HNW (harsh noise wall) is very conform genre, but seem nonconform at first..

See the thing is, Hipster's ruined actually being hip. I know a ton of people that wore thrift store clothes, listened to underground music, watched and read interesting movies and books, but they weren't pretentious brats. There is a very thin line between so called hipsters and people that genuinely are just being themselves and that is hard to tell at face value. So i say, don't judge somebody on their hipster appearance alone.
