A Child's Prayer by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (album Love is Spoken here)
*I do not own the music nor the picture*

Lyrics=
Night time, quiet time,
Loved ones gather at day's end.
I hold them close, I help them know
That God will always be their friend.
Then just before I say goodnight
My little ones kneel by my chair.
I close my eyes, I dim the lights,
And listen to this simple prayer:

Heavenly Father, are you really there?
And do you here and answer ev're child's prayer?
Some say that heaven is far away,
But I feel is close around me as I pray.

Heavenly Father I remeber now
Something that Jesus told disiples long ago:
"Suffer the children to come to me."
Father, in prayer I'm coming now to thee.

Pray, He is there. Speak, He is list'ning.
You are His child, His love now surround you.
He hears your prayer, He loves the children.
Of such is the kingdom, the Kingdom of heav'n.

Heavenly Father, are you really there?
He hears and answers every child's prayer.
Please hear my prayer.

  • Well... this sure isn't James MacMillan's "A Child's Prayer." ;)

  • seriously gives me goosebumps every time I listen. thank you for posting, it truly does bring the spirit in hard times.

  • I really love this song. I have been cramming my homework in all day, sadly i did not even go to church. So i have listened to a lot of Motabs music and i love it all, but especially this one

  • this is truly my favorite version of this song. I just love the tabernacle choir!

  • our ward choir is practicing this and will perform in a couple weeks. It will be good but not even close to Motab.

  • This lovely song brings tears to my eyes almost every time I hear it or sing it. Contrast the pleading doubt on the child's part by the calm re-assurance from the parent, and add in the Holy Spirit whispering that the parent's words are true. Even though I'm in my 40's, I still sometimes feel like that little child, and love to hear the reassurance that my prayers do indeed reach far beyond the ceiling. Thanks for the reminder that Heavenly Father does hear and answer our prayers!

  • I remember this song i used to cry to this song wen we sung it in primary now im a teen and its so different
