  • yeah, this isn't too too high for a tuba (especially on a CC tuba) it only goes to a middle C. now, Berlioz symphonie fantastique mvt 4 and five AND wagner's die meistersinger all go up to the e-flat above that. that's high.

  • Close--Meistersinger goes to an E natural, and Symphonie Fantastique mvt. 5 (in standard performance practice) goes to a Bb above middle C.

So yes, Ewald is moderate by comparison to those, but it's fairly high compared to most of the band literature one encounters in high school and early college!

  • Ok, I'm not gonna make it seem like its worse than it is but yes there is minimal intonation glitches. Regardless its a great rendition that is very close to being professional quality. Trumpetgod, loud mouthpieces are only good for marching band. They are probably the worst brand mouthpiece for a quintet. That tuba chick is beast. She probably eats nails for breakfast (w/ no milk). She could get into the Salty Spitoon any day.

  • Are you kidding me trumpetgod? First of all, trumpetgod?? Second, you tell these guys to play on mouthpieces endorsed by Rick Baptist...to get a better sound? Is this your first day playing? You must be a faggot.

These guys sound great and they deserve credit. Only someone who likes it IBD would say that.

Let's hope they don't take your advice to heart and ruin their sound. Cockhead.

  • This was recorded just the day I turned 20! aw

  • Nice job, folks!!!!! I did this piece for my Senior Recital at NE Conservatory in 1978. Great piece!!

  • Nice performance...always glad to hear this work .

  • This proves my theory from checking out brass quintets - the smaller the tuba used, the better the group sounds. It could indicate the kinds of players in the group (independent v band), or there could be true acoustical reason.

  • Very cool. :)

  • Hey guys, nice playing. Keep up the good work!

  • Outstanding performance! Great dynamics, style, and interpretation! Tuba is outstanding but unlike earlier comments, the rest of the quintet shines as well.

  • they actually go up to the high e above that ; ) -

  • try the tuba solo in the Bydlo movement of pictures at an exhibition, it goes up to an Ab above middle c. which is the reason its usually played on euphonium.

  • great job ladies and gents, we are playing this at a church concert this month.... looking forward to seeing how it turns out we told the group to look this up for an example just to hear it... whoever says that this isn't a job well done should record something better and post it.
