16mm test footage made by Ray Harryhausen in 1949 for a proposed War of The Worlds movie that he started working on the idea for while in the army in 1942. Ray showed the footage and his drawings to George Pal in 1950 who was, unbeknownst to Ray, in negotiations to make a War of the Worlds movie and used his footage and sketches to sell to studio heads. Pal made his version of War of the Worlds in 1953 without Rays ideas or designs, with the exception of setting the movie in the United States. Ray also planned to shoot test footage of the tripod walkers but never did. His idea for spinning tops of the machines he later used for the flying saucers in Earth vs The Flying saucers in 1956.
