Jerome Robbins was a choreographer and director. In the 1950's he named names to the committee, thus ending the careers of many of Zero Mostel's friends. In the 1960s', "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was failing out of town. The producers decided the only person who could fix it. Zero was the star. Zero (performed by Jim Brochu) tells the story of what happened at that first rehearsal.

  • its funny cuz Robbins didnt name MOSTEL Martin Berkeley was the one who did that

  • @pippozg True. And in the play, Zero mentions this. What Zero hated was the fact that Robbins named all of Zero's friends, causing many of them to have to live outside the country or use assumed names in order to earn a living.

  • How do I get a reader's copy of this script? Or the rights to perform it?

  • @tarotbear The rights are now available through Sam French.

  • When was this done in Los Angeles and will it come to New York? I would be first in line for tickets. Mr. Brochu is outstanding as the great Zero.

  • ZERO HOUR is now playing in New York at the DR2 theater in Union Square.

  • @steveshack Thank you, Steve! I have already purchased the script. (Say HI to Jim for me! LOL!)

  • And now, in a Left-Dominated entertainment industry, it's the conservatives who are afraid to step up and be counted. The only ones who do (Tom Selleck, Mel Gibson) are those who are too rich to care whether they work again or not. People like Bing Crosby, John Wayne, and Bob Hope, all admitted conservatives, would never have gotten to bat in today's entertainment industry, let alone become big stars. That half the audience didn't applaud when Elia Kazan won his special Oscar says it all.

  • I don't give a damn..if Mr.Robbins did save "A Funny Thing Happened"? There is no excuse for what Mr.Robbins did to poor Zero. His involvement in the communistic witch hunt and his attacks against poor Zero is unforgiven.

  • Thank you, TheOrganiston9th.

  • @sjbosch56 You are SO right. You said it brilliantly!

  • "We of the left do not blacklist?" That may have been true in 1962, but...

  • We have certainly come a long way from those days of paranoia when the whole world was afraid of communists taking over. What with having one in the White House and all.
