@kalitary "Chan" is used as a term of endearment and not reserved for girls. Close friends may use the "chan" honorific, even if it's from one straight guy to another. "San" is for when people want to be formal (the lack of closeness can be offensive in some situations). "Tan" is an honorific that is reserved for young girls, though some young women with a Peter Pan complex may ask to be addressed that way.
