Dominance is a word that's used almost daily in training, or even just "being with" a horse. This herd footage shows what dominance means in Equus language, and what humans can do to earn leadership.

  • You're welcome to come visit anytime! I've had many requests to come and spend a week learning and studying here. I'm working out some details now! And thank you for all of your comments. They help me in putting together more to watch.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Auditing a course at SUNY Cobleskill in tackless training with Steve Mackenzie. I asked were I might find a video such as yours and no one knew. I will let them know. I am eager to order your new book. I wish you success in all your endeavors. I believe many people and horses are going to benefit because of your study and presence in this field.

  • @Wildfeather Thank you for your kind comment! There is more complete footage in my DVD "Equus as a Second Language", 2006. It's currently being edited for second edition, and so not available except through me. 2nd edition will be available within the month. I'll be adding more similar videos here soon.

  • Wow!! I've been working with horses for quite a few years, and I know their language pretty well, but this video definitely showed me some stuff I didn't know before. Thank you!!

  • BEAUTIFUL! I love the method, the way you... understand the horses. I LOVE THE E. ARABIANS!

  • love this, i enjoyed watching this, as i totally agree, i was waiting to see what you said, as i had picked my opinion of the lead mare, and wanted to see what yours was. we have the same opinion. i love your usage of the words lead and alpha. and the "move you loose" principal. there is some driving from behind and some leading with lead horses, but it is definately mostly about calm and purposeful movements. i love this. beautiful!!!

  • I've seen a lot of demonstrations of horse dominance but never had it translated so well. This does a great job showing how a human can use the horses own language to communicate. I think the challenge will be using it all of the time. Switching back and forth between human speak and horse speak will only confuse the animal and take longer before they look to you for direction. Thanks!
