Is Marriage for White People?

The new book by Stanford law professor Ralph Richard Banks has people talking. The premise: African American marriages are in trouble. He says African American women should marry outside of their race, that it's better for them because of the struggles of black men. After the interview on The Filter with Fred Roggin, Kita Williams of The T.O. Show and the Los Angeles Urban League's Chris Strudwick-Turner talk about the professor's ideas on marriage. I think Prof. Banks makes perfect sense. He's not saying there's anything wrong w/ dating black men; he's saying black women shouldn't just choose a black man strictly because he's black instead of the opening themselves to the possibility of meeting someone with the same interests, morals, and goals that may, perhaps, be of another race. Many black women would take the run down black man who treats them like crap instead of the (insert race of choice here) man who treats them like a queen.

The professor never said DON'T date black men...he just urges black women to test out interracial dating and interracial marriage more, since there STATISTICALLY are not enough good black men. He makes perfect sense! All he saying is if you choose to date a man of the same status and class and you need to open up to other races to give you better chances. He not saying that marry black men are a bad decision! People need to listen and read correctly.
