Not temporary.
The reason you usually don't want to pull off the tank is because getting the boss out of position is Very Bad -- for example, think about Ignis. or Thorim.
But it's the best way to do Hodir.

Tried it last night, it worked! The only thing that was bugging me was invis not going through for the 2 attempts after mirrors, even when frozen blows wasn't up but nonetheless I went all out and just called for taunts.
We had a slight problem with npcs this time actually, we tried assigning 3 hunters to break out just mages but it didnt work and we lacked a lot of storm power.

Glad it worked.
That's why we just tell everyone their job is to break NPC's, period.

Wow I just figured out why this has been confusing me so much, I was thinking about all classes when it's about mages and mirrors and it's permanent because we can pop mirrors, go way past the tanks threat, call for a taunt, invis and now the tank has the threat of whoever he taunted off of permenantly.
Is that right or am I still confused D;

You're confused. Taunt gets the top person's threat, period.
Yes, that's a good way for mages to help the tank ramp up his post-taunt threat which gives other classes a big threat ceiling.
DPS threat is 100% dependent on when you get storm power, and if you're distributing it well you're unlikely to have it all the time, so your threat likely won't continue to climb. If it does, use invis.

Can you elaborate? "Rather have dps hold back, just have the tank ready to taunt"
If said dps aren't holding back how is a taunt supposed to prevent hodir from running straight back to whichever dps has aggro that is going all out? Am I missing something about what taunt actually does? I thought no matter what dps has to be at 110% or under to not pull?

Taunt sets the tank's threat at the DPS who pulled.
We never hold back and we use "just taunt" each week and we kill him easily, I assure you it works.
