Monday 10 November 2008 - The Chinese are coming

Presented by Paul Donovan

+ Like the United States Marines, China is seen riding to the rescue of the world with a USD586bn stimulus package over the next couple of years. This is roughly the equivalent of 3% of consumer spending on an annualised basis.

+ China's stimulus is focused on investment in infrastructure and consumption. It should compensate for some of the weakness in the economy that is generated by the poor outlook for exports - but we do not see it compensating all the weakness. We affirm a 7.5% growth view in 2009.

+ The US media report that AIG is seeking a renegotiated (or, larger) bail out from the government, extending the duration of its loans. Another bank failed (the nineteenth) and S&P cut the credit rating of General Motors while warning of the possibility of more cuts in the future.

+ The G20 pre meeting meeting was a monumental non-event to judge by the communiqué. It seems unlikely that a multipolar world will be able to restructure the international financial architecture in a weekend. However, there will be a chance to be photographed next to Senator Obama next weekend.

  • wow..love the video..Thanks alot!

  • @FurryPhysics keep your mouth open

  • oh yeah

  • The Chinese are cumming?

  • Explosives planted at the base of the twin towers, timed when the planes crashed. Interesting.

  • Moral order is economic order. The Government of the United States must hang the treasoners who attacked the country on Sept. 11'th, not write laws that make it illegal to say so.

  • Yes, it's the MNCs that have abused people across the world for the benefit and gain of a few. People are people no matter the country and I certainly don't blame the Chinese worker.

  • agree, the common Chinese people gets bucks of money, aren't they? Definitely not, where does the money concentrated to? Just image, MNCs and ..., if the money was distributed to common people and boost consumption and imports, it'll be another scene to see today, but now lose-lose game to general people. Then pls don't call Chinese Chin*, that's an abuse to milli of human being that do not conflict with you and suffer from the system as well

  • Maybe I'll plot a true story how WMT make the purchase in China, every dime to save, even a tax refund to be transferred to WMT, and quility is the first to compromise that WMT don't care about, sometimes QC refused to sign names on QC checking paper...The domestic consumption is so low but demand is there, the problem is out of control of a common people, the econ system make sth ..

  • do u believe Chinese like to be a working slave huh? the person in the economy just like a grain in the sea, be here you'll have to work like a slave as well or get to die without any aid
