U wanna be a rude boy huh?

Today, many of us are doing exactly the same. We are running away from Quran and Sunnah and willingly live in a state of anger. The anger that prevails among today's Muslim Ummah is a reaction to the passive hatred among others towards Islam, which is looked upon as a threat to modern society, capable of changing the materialistic world. Why did the Quraish, who were wealthy and influential people, oppose the Prophet (PBUH) so bitterly while they always believed him to be honest and trustworthy? The Quraish feared that Islam would bring about a just society that would hit them hard.
The global media is constantly denigrating Muslims, criticizing everything in Islam from personal laws to its social structure, and making cynical comments about Islam. Sometimes, the blames for the deeds of irresponsible individuals or groups are pinned on Islam. This state of affairs will not change unless we control our emotions and take unto the world the true beauty of Islam. We can not get rid of or avoid people who try to tarnish Islam, but we should learn to control ourselves and educate them by our deeds.

Personally, we all have to learn anger management. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the one who controls himself while in anger.' (Salih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.135)

Scientifically, anger is considered a completely normal and healthy human emotion but it can vary in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage. The latter can be destructive. Psychologists have studied people who get angry very easily and have suggested various methodologies for anger management.

On one occasion, the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned, "Some are quick to get angry and quick to cool down, one character making up for the other; some get angry slowly and take as much time to cool down, one character making up for the other; but the best of you are those who are slow to get angry and quick to cool down, and the worst of you are those who are quick to get angry and slow to cool down."

Further the Prophet (PBUH) said, "Beware of anger, for it is a live coal on the heart of the descendant of Adam. Do you not notice the swelling of the veins of his neck and the redness of his eyes? So when anyone experiences anything of that nature he should lie down and cleave to the earth" (Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5145).

It was further elaborated by Allah's Messenger (PBUH), "If one of you becomes angry while standing he should sit down. If the anger leaves him, well and good; otherwise he should lie down" (Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5114).

Performing ablution is another method of anger management. The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Anger comes from the devil, the devil was created of fire, and fire is extinguished only with water; so when any of you is angry, he should perform ablution" (Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4766).

Psychotherapists adopt three approaches - expressing, suppressing and calming - for anger management. Either express the anger in an assertive manner, or suppress and redirect it to a positive action or calm down. It has been noticed that in each approach some sort of problems could be created if it is not handled the way a therapist wishes.

There is one distinct advantage in following the Quranic guidance and the Prophet's (PBUH) sayings regarding anger management. It pleases Allah, and the person controlling anger gets rewarded. The Prophet (PBUH) said "If anyone suppresses anger when he is in a position to give vent to it, Allah, the exalted, will call him on the Day of Resurrection over the heads of all creatures, and ask him to choose any of the bright and large eyed maidens he wishes." (Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4759).
