Premier 1970's 10 lug Super Royal Scot Pipe Band Snare Drum

Here's a 1970's vintage 10 lug Premier Super Royal Scot Pipe band Snare. This is a demonstration showing the difference between pitches that using different sticks on the same drum can produce. The first part of the clip original Alex Duthart sticks (pre 1981) were used. I then switched to a very light (58 grams) pair of TG 1's then back to the Dutharts. Also a good example of how much the pitch of our drums has changed in pipe band drumming over the last 30 years. The drum is all original Premier including top & bottom snares with the exception of bottom head (modern Premier & Top (Remo Emperor) substitute very similiar in ply to the original Premier Pipe Band Batter Mylar heads.

Not really buying that logic dude but easy enough to test since I have a set of NOS Dutharts in the bag. I mean the pre 80's non Shaw version. I guess you'll say because they're aged they don't sound the same.? I played this drum from 1977 to 1981, uh yeah it sounds the same as it did back then with a mylar head. I've got a set of Arthur Cooks I bought 12 years ago, they sound the same every time I play them. I don't think they've been "hollowed" out over the years.

so the Duthart sticks would not have the same sound on the drum as they did when they were new even though they'd feel the same in your hands.

yes but you know that over time and notes plyed the grain qualty of the wood 'hollows' out changing the density of the wood and thus effecting the sound qualty.

That's interesting- how different the pitches are. I just happened to try a pair of newer Duthart sticks before seeing this video and noticed how less dense are and how much more vibration they seemed to carry than TG 1s; they're almost like Neils. Now it makes sense. I only tried them on the pad, not my HTS 700.  I'll try that out tomorrow.
