a politician should be toward their beliefs.

Don't play people, don't pretend to agree with

them just to get their vote, JUST BE HONEST.

Tell it like you believe it or see it and don't compromise, people respect that.

I think the "conviction" he is talking about is one that is more a matter of conscience and with Mr. Hukabee being a Christian it really shouldn't be a surprise that he has an inner sense of the said things being wrong. Does this maybe make more sense?
