Sally Being Loaded To Go Home From Our First Show

this is my friend Sharon loading my shetland pony Sally on 23rd December 2007 on the way home from a show. Sally was badly abused as far as trailers are concerned before i got her. she was hit with jump wings, pushed off the ramp, smacked with blue hose, and once fell on a fence and ended up on her back when they pushed her off. When she was brought home from the show she would be locked in the trailer for 2 days as "punishment" for not loading in the first place.

Understandably when I got her she was unloadable. Using ONLY natural horsemanship techniques, we got Sally loading. In this video she is wearing a humane pressure halter. This is the whole loading process start to finish, there was no "behind the scenes" mistreatment before the video started.

As a result of her past, Sally is terrified of the door being shut behind her. For this reason,the breast bar is removed, she is led up the right hand side, through the front and stood facing the rear of the trailer on the left hand side. Then the ramp can be put up where she can see it. She then travels backwards, which she doesn't seem to mind! This method is only possible because she is 10hh, any bigger and she wouldn't fit through the front! Hay bales are then stacked behind her so that she can't slide around.

(Notice also the way people always stare when they go past someone having trouble loading! lol)

thanks i know i dont see how people can treat animals like that. and yeah she has a loving home for life with me. my parents have agreed to never sell her :)

yeah its not getting her on thats the problem its getting the door closed behind her. we have now taken the partition out and travel her backwards and she loads first time.

yeh lol shetlands are normally very greedy! but sally is more scared than stubborn and she has learnt how to resist the carrots! :P

TIP: my pony is also scared of horse trailers but when we go about a yard away and trot into it she just goes straight in.

i had the same issue with della and food she never got any and dosint care what your holding,

but now she exspects her hard feed after she worked [evan paws for it] a few days ago i sat down in the middle of her paddock she walked very slowly towards me very hesitant she actully wanted to know me, shes starting to really brighten up and realise shes not going back to that place

i know what its like abused horse cases are bad della was horrible, i rember the frist time after i broke her in i rode towards a parked float and car,

she went mental, after spooking a thousand times and refuseing to take steps towards it she tried charging at it, and when she was last loaded she would rear and buck try and knock you over then as soon as that door is shut she would stand there in shock, i havnt got a float to give her the time neded on floating,
