  • makes me sad to think of what happens to the pet store rats that dont get bought

  • @1981BTHM Yes, it is sad, but if we keep supporting pet shops by paying them for their animals, we will just be subjecting more rats to that fate. :L That is why I am very happy that we don't have snakes here in New Zealand!! :)

  • Where I live there aren't many (if any) breeders of rat related shelters so if a pet shop was the main option, what are some other ways to find a rat that doesn't have a resp infection? I know that's a big pet shop problem..

  • @xratedMadHattress The main sign of a respiratory infection is noisy breathing. In a healthy rat, their breathing should be silent. Also, look to see if the rat's sides are sucking in with each breath. Of course they should be moving a bit, but if they are heaving in and out, it shows that the rat is struggling to breathe. Other things to look out for are if the rat is underweight, lethargic, or if it has red gunk around its eyes. These are both signs of stress and a possible resp. Good luck! :)

  • I am scared because i dont know where to find a bredder i live in rome and would like two girl rats please help me!

  • @Ms24Diana Sorry, I don't know where specifically you can find rats because I don't live in Rome, but you could try to find an online rat website, blog or forum for your area because they will often have recommendations for local breeders. Another idea could be to look in the ads section of pets magazines because sometimes rat breeders will advertise there. If not you probably have an animal rescue near you, they often have a lot of rats so you could get 2 from there. :) Good luck!
