It also had an unofficial spinoff - LOVERS AND FRIENDS which was renamed FOR RICHER FOR POORER. It was created by then-AW head writer Harding Lemay. Since Bay City was so close to Chicago (where FRFP was based), there were several instances which Mac and Rachel interacted with the Saxons.

ANOTHER WORLD in 1964 was the first daytime soap to air in color for NBC.

ANOTHER WORLD aired on NBC from May of 1963 until June of 1999....it lasted more than 35 years on the network. "AW" was also the first daytime soap to air in color, but also the first soap to expand to 90 minutes and also had two spinoffs
SOMERSET and TEXAS.

ANOTHER WORLD was the best! I often thought it would also have done well as a weekly, prime-time soap like Dynasty, or Dallas. The cast was the best. And the list of famous actors/actresses who had roles on the show over the years is impressive.

ANOTHER WORLD wasn't the first soap to have a spinoff. AS THE WORLD TURNS had OUR PRIVATE WORLD briefly in 1965. And you forgot that AW was the first daytime soap to expand to 90 minutes - it retreated back to an hour to make room for TEXAS (which spun off Iris Wheeler from Bay City to Houston)

Another World NEVER had lower ratings than Sunset Beach. As a matter of fact the last week of Another World pulled in a 2.8 rating, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy higher than Passions or Sunset Beach could have ever hoped to achieve. Hell today if AW was still on and pulled a 2.8 rating it would be second only to Young and the Restless.

Thank You!!! I was about to leave comments about the same thing. Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory) spoke out after the cancellation and spilled the beans on NBC--something I hope Deidre Hall will do once DAYS is finally canceled due to network interference and piss poor writing to the youngsters.
ANOTHER WORLD was the best soap opera ever...

Another world wasn't cancelled for Sunset but for Passions. And NBC decided not to renew the soap due to P&G not agreeing with NBC terms of making AW campy and supernatural like DAYS. Plus NBC wanted to get rid of Rachel and Carl which did not sit with the cast, P&G, and fans. So that basically sealed AW's fate. To know that AW could still be on TV but NBC was so stupid and stubborn b/c P&G did not want their soap to be like PASSIONS (cancelled) and DAYS (about near cancellation). Idiots...
