This Ableton Tutorial is the first in a series that will teach how to use all of the audio effects available in Ableton Live.

The tutorials will discuss how each effect works and most importantly provide examples of ways to use them in your tracks.

The Auto Filter device included with Ableton has some powerful features that are often overlooked. In this video we will discuss the beat quantize function, the dual LFO and the envelope following parameters.

The Auto Filter is demonstrated working mainly on white noise as this makes it easy to both hear and see the results. The filter can be used for a huge number of tasks including adding movement to pads, pumping drum loops and imparting rhythm to stale sounds.

As with most effects you will get the most from it by adding modulation or automation to the parameters. This Ableton video tutorial covers a number of techniques & tricks to get you started in this area.

  • When are the next one's going up? This series could be really helpful :P

  • @C4pitalise Next one will be up in a week or so looking at tricks with the Auto Pan device :-)

  • would've been "better" if the spectrogram was placed AFTER the filters, so not only would one hear the filtering, but also see it..

  • @peterkleinlich Hi Peter, That technique is show at the beginning of the video so that those not familiar with filtering can try it out for themselves. Hopefully everything else is clearly explained and easy enough to hear :-)
