Just got the U4 and i'm so impressed with it! Love the fact that you can switch between upper and lower nozzles and can rotate them to change the direction of water flow and the venturi vents provide a lot of oxygen. Currently cycling it in the tank along with my old filter, was gonna remove that one but might just keep both of them running for extra filtration.

could fluval u4 handle a large 4 foot tank? when u look at it, it doesnt seem tough enough but it does have long sponges which is good for lots of bacteria growth. see in my 4 footer i have an internal filter at each end of tank. cheers.

An FX5 should be able to handle that by itself, but a bit of extra filtration as a back-up or for extra help never hurts. These 'U' series filters are fantastic. I have used them and sold them since they first came out, I can not recomend them enough.
