Hello youtube. In this video, I'm going to run through five good reasons to join the social liberalist party.
I'll then deal with a few FAQ's.
Ok, so reason one. if you're a real
liberal, this is about the only party for you! We are the only party with new liberali ideas,
and our principle aim is to give liberals an effective voice in politics. If you're a liberal, join up
now and help us bring back ideas of freedom and liberty into the mainstream.
The second reason I can think of is that being in the party is fun! We dont play by the normal rules of
politics, social liberalists have their party meetings in pubs, in parks and on beaches.
We tend to attract dynamic and outgoing members, so being in the party is a great way of meeting like
minded, intelligent, fun people. We tend to attract dynamic and outgoing members,
The third, and perhaps the best reason is that its free, and its going to
stay free. No one should have to pay to have a say in how their own country is run, and thats what
we are offering you.
The fourth reason is that we want to give our members
as much say in party policy as possible. Our members are not just footsoldiers to be called
up to canvass for elections, our members run the show. Senior positions in the party will be permanently up for
grabs, so anyone who thinks they can do a better job than me as economy spokesman is welcome to
pitch for the job.
The fifth reason is the way the party is led. Anyone, and I do mean anyone, whether they're a party member or not,
is welcome to get in touch with the leadership, on facebook, by e-mail or by messaging us here on youtube. We'll
gladly answer any questions, comments or criticisms from anyone. The social liberalist party is really led by its members,
so my job, and the job of the other senior people, is to help the members and the public out in any way we can.
Well I hope that gave you some food for thought, and I look forward to welcoming the massive flood of new members
that will of course inevitably result from this video!
Before I finish, I'll take some time to answer a couple of FAQS.People often ask us why we're wasting so much of our time
on politics. Its a fair question. We cant be certain if this venture is going to work.
if we are successful,
it'll be fantastic for politics in this country. Voters havnt had a real choice for decades, if we are able to put
real liberals in positions where they can do some good, none of our efforts will have been in vain.
I've also been asked what the point is in having a party based on the internet. The answer is of course
that we are the only party taking full advantage of the internet, but we have started to buildup a grassroots
organisation all over the country. There will be lots of events over the coming months, keep an eye on
the website for more information. The next video will be on the subject of strategy, so hopefully all your
questions about how we intend to bring freedom back into the political mainstream will be answered then.
Thankyou for taking the time to watch this video. If you enjoyed it, please consider subscribing to this channel
for the latest from the social liberalist party. If you have any questions or want to join the party for free,
go to www.voteliberalist.org, or contact us by sending a message to this youtube channel, the party leader or our
facebook page, you'll find all of that on the website. Britain deserves freedom. Help us bring it about.
Oh, one more thing - isn't inheritance unearned income? It might not sit well with your putative electoral base, but surely it would sit best with your ideology to advocate much higher inheritance taxes in the name of lowering others (and increasing meritocracy).

We're currently looking at reforming IHT. If you join us or just keep an eye on us, you'll see if and when we change policy. Am more than happy to take suggestions however - PM me, or send me an e-mail to discuss.

I think there are 3 principal problems here:
The name: 'liberalist' is just godawful. If you can't have 'liberal' you might be better thinking of something entirely different.
Why you don't just become entryists into the Lib Dems? There is already a considerable classical liberal presence there.
Friedman and Hayek? Please no. No one can really argue with Mill but including them so prominently just makes you look like old-fashioned anarcho-capitalist crazies (which hopefully you aren't)

The name grows on you - just refer to it as the SLP if you think it's that bad, and SLP has a decent ring to it. We voted on the name after the Electoral Commission said "liberal" wasn't allowed.
Because the LDs will never be properly liberal - your base is largely socialist/ social democrat, so you'll always be held back by that.
We believe in free markets, but believing in free and universal healthcare and education is hardly anarcho-capitalist now is it?

Just a couple of comments:
1/ A married man with children in the 1950's paid NO tax! A far cry from today when MANY families are struggling to survive on TWO jobs!
2/ I VERY much like your manifesto which only disagree with one item: Immigration! The UK cannot possibly have an open door policy when we are such a small crowded island already. This has to be sensibly managed.
Keep up the good work a real breath of fresh air and what this country so desperately needs!

Thanks for the generally positive comment.
Our immigration policy is one of moving towards more open borders only AFTER other policies have been implemented. In the meantime existing policies would be kept, and perhaps even enforced better.
Essentially, it's about making the legal routes easier to use, thus reducing people trafficking, etc. This means that those who would usually go through the illegal routes would instead opt to use the legal, easier route instead.
