Two immortals of baseball, John McGraw and Christy Mathewson. McGraw with his 1917 Giants in training. Players in various training exercises. McGraw in front of dugout. McGraw out of uniform. Christy Mathewson at bat. Christy (on top) playfully welcomes Bennie Kauff who came to the Giants from the Federal League. Mathewson went to war after winning 373 games. In 1929 Christy displayed is famous grip for his parents at their Factoryville, Pennsylvania home.

  • @Narragansett55 The year is probably 1920, could just be a typo. It's definitely postwar because you can see Christy is already prematurely aged, a result of his exposure to poison gas during the war. He was only 45 when he died, but looked older because of the long illness.

  • Great video, but that's not 1929 where Christy is displaying his famous grip as he passed away in 1925.
