The Real Catholic Scandal

The Church's reform schools in Ireland were exposed this week as dungeons of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, and American Catholics are busy complaining about President Obama's commencement speech at Notre Dame University. The real scandal is the Church's failure in what it claims to be best at: protecting the young and innocent.

Excellent commentary!

1. This has been going on for centuries in many lands

2. Clergy operate on dominance & submission w/changing roles depending on who they interact with. A BDSM club would be less of a mindfuck!

3. The entire Church organization is riddled with abuse & abusers; recruiting the abused to become new abusers. Laity are trained to view all this as 'normal', leading to societal dysfunction.

The Vatican should be dragged to the World Court for crimes against humanity!

I've heard from some of my Catholic friends and family members that the institutional response on the part of the Church in the U.S. over the last few years has been to require lay members to undergo "Virtus" training -- which apparently is "training" on how to not molest children. This is an odd response to a phenomenon that has almost exclusively been clerical.

When I was 10 years old I became a mass server to better please God and the priest sodomized me about twice a week for the next 3 years. During this period of time I was getting beat up at home at least several times a week and sodomized by the priest several times a week when I wasn't home. And at that age I was usually either at home, school, or the priests house at any given time.

I should note the weird virtual silence on the part of Catholics here on YT...and on various Catholics sites/blogs to this horror. An online search reveals that it has NOT really made the US papers! But that should not be surprising, considering the control over & membership within the news media by members of Opus Dei.

This may have something to do with the fact that MANY perverted Irish clerics were sent/hidden in US schools & parishes, where classroom abuse was rife.

True - 'Virtus' is a bizarre response to say the least...when the clergy were the ones doing the misdeeds! The Boy Scouts did a similar thing. The net result of such 'training' is paranoia & unease around kids -and makes kids react strangely to adults.

Neither solves anything. The unreported guilty are still there in both cases. As a Catholic I would say the actual # of cases is vastly higher then those reported. Fear keeps ppl silent.

The Magdalene laundries took in young pregnant women.........the nuns stood over the girls , beat them and treated them like dirt. The girls were forced to give birth with no help, no medicine but they had nuns standing over them screaminga t them not to make a fuss,,,,,,,,,,they took the babies and left the mothers bloodstained and pathetic. Shame on those fucking nuns and priests.................they made us feel like nothing as children whilst drinking and smoking and counting their money.

These schools were hell on earth for the children...........I feel so ashamed and feel angry as I have children..............i look at my beautiful boys , blond and blue eyed and my heart shudders to think what these priests have done to these boys and girls.........not only sexual abuse but emotional abuse too, you are nothing and you are trash...............lie down you beast.
