Captain Beyond baby!

I do believe this is the noteworthy Captain Beyond.

@Chris51 ----continuing---and transitioned smoothly into a rude twin fanged distortion that could be dialed down with the guitars volume pot.Unfortunately for me I just couldn't justify the stomach churning price tag. That said I appreciate the excellent quality and workmanship that goes into the making of an amp like that-or at least went into the building of THAT particular model. Most companies have a hard time sustaining that level of quality over the long haul.

@Chris51 I forgot to comment on your AC-30.I'd love to hear it-especially with the blue Alnico speakers.I don't really know shit about the Vox line but I've heard that the "top boost" models are the best ones.Is that about right or not?Of course tone is a completely personal and subjective matter so in the end it boils down to what your own ears want to hear. The closest I ever came to "Vox-land" was when I almost bought a 15 watt Matchless "Lightening" that shimmered with bell-like delicacy----

@bluesborn - it is a nice little amp. The Vox is too fragile now to take out sadly. I guess we will forever search fro that Holy Grail as you say. I find my ears are defined by my taste in music. I prefer blues, rock, prog rock even country rock and some metal these days. The occassional folk song that isn't too corny to make me vomit is fine too. I realy just enjoy listening to good musicianship. The doof doof stuff is an insult to music but it seems to suit the shallow end of the gene pool.

@Chris51 I've been through so many amps searching for "the Holy Grail" of tone that it makes me dizzy.
I've now reached an age where I've been able to relax and save my money. My equipment is pared right down to a Super Champ X.D (fabulous little amps-do a search)a Sunburst Epiphone Dot,and a "Tradition" low end acoustic that although cheap actually sounds pretty dang good. That little Marshall of yours sounds like a hip amp.
-
@bluesborn - the japs make great stuff. They take great pride in the things they do The yamaha sg 2000 still is a great guitar. what amp are you playing through? I use a late 60's ac30 with the blue alnico speakers and I have a small Marshall 40w valvetronic that is awesome for small venues. My guitars are an '88 strat puls, ovation balladeer, a martin D16 and a late 70's custom les paul (not as good as the fenders though. I reckon Gibson are great but really over rated and way over priced.)

@Chris51 An original '52 Tele? Yowza. How come that shit never happens to me?
Anyway check out the sound of this '83 Squire by searching You Tube with the following:
"Fender Japan 1983 JV Squier Stratocaster - Sonic Blue - Detail Pictures"

@bluesborn - yep I have heard that just because a guitar is a 'signature' guitar doesn't mean it's the right one for 'you'. I once played about a dozen differant guitars before I found one I really liked, brand new ones, old ones and as providence sometimes happens I settled on what even the dealer thought was an old daggy '84 reissue Tele, paid my $1300 and found out later that day it was an original '52 Tele. Looks like crap, plays like honey.

@Chris51 I bought a White Strat 'cause Hendrix used one(among others)although mine turned out to be the worst dead toned log I ever owned.Part of the money I used to buy it was raised by selling my '72 Fender Mustang which, apart from the short scale was one of the best sounding guitars I ever owned..sigh.Eventually I did buy some great Strats and I think the cherry of the bunch was my '83 Jap Squire. It had true tone to the bone.
