I made this video because this was my first time on a bullet train. Even though I have been to Japan many times, and even worked on the Seikan Tunnel project, in 1975, I had never ridden on a bullet train.

This is a fantastic way to travel in Japan. In the past I would fly to Tokyo and then fly to Hiroshima. I will be taking the train from now on. It's much more vacation appropriate than flying. Costs a bit more but well worth the small extra cost.

  • The Nozomi is supposed to be the fastest but a faster one is being built. I think it's currently around 185 mph. Japan is building a new one that is supposed to top 215 MPH. This is for standard conventional trains. But the world record for a train (French) is 357 MPH. That's hauling. But it was a specialized, highly modified train.

  • By the way, the noise is because I had the camera resting against the window. It picked up noise that wasn't really apparent to the ear. Not at all as noisy that it might appear in the video.

  • Do you know how many miles per hour or kilometers per hour the train travels at?
