The best way to shop at the grocery store is the outer edges, that is the produce area, the meat area, and the bread area. Everything in the middle is highly processed, high in sugars, salts, artificial colors, processed fats, etc. Watch food inc, super size me, & similar documentaries to see how little food companies care about our health & well being. Of course, the meat, dairy, & produce companies are likewise guilty of doing bad things, but we do know the processed foods make people fat.

BTW, one thing I can tell you from experience, don't trust the food companies. Most processed foods contain hydrogenated & partially oils, which are worse for you than saturated oils. The daily max intake is 2 grams, but since its in so many foods, its easy to go over that amount, the recommended amount is actually zero, that's right zero. This stuff is linked to 700,000 heart attacks a year, & linked to strokes. Its in everything from cold cereal, to ice cream, pizza, crackers, & anything else

I have jumped on the fitness bandwagon in midlife, after watching about a dozen relatives pass on, due to poor lifestyle choices. My family has seen the ravages of diabetes, strokes, & heart attacks, some of which went hand in hand. I hope to avoid the health crisis that stroke family members in their late 50s & mid 60s, so as to live healthy & productive senior years. I'm half way to my goal, & can't wait to see where I will be by summer, & then by year's end.
